Amid the terrors and hardships suffered by so many thousands of refugees in Indochina, the departure of Marshal Lon Nol, ailing chief of a terminally-ill government, may not appear large in human terms. But his leaving marks the end of a Cambodia era, and just possibly, the begining of the end of the acute suffering of the Cambodian people. Lon Nol has born a heavy burden of blame for those sufferings he was the leader of the revolt that overthew Prince Sihanouk. In 1970: acting, then elected president of the Khmer Republic, whose brief course seems to be ending in blood and tears.
