At down on Thursday Phnom Penh, the Cambodian capital, fell to the Red Khmer: The long war was over at last. The rebels, greatly outnumbering what was left of the government's forces, pushed into the centre of the city during the night, capturring the presidential palace and the defence ministry and the empty American embassy the last shots of resistance were fired outside the French embassy.
