Summary / Abstract :
|
The Cambodian insurgents, in a sudden large-scale attack, drove to the edge of Phnom Penh today pushing thousands of frightened refugees from the outskirts into the city. It appeared that the final battle for the capital had begun. The communist-led insurgents, despite heavy bombing by government aicraff, advanced to within less than a mile of the airport, which was closed to civilian traffic, their objective seemed to be to cut off the city from the airport, which is the Phnom Penh government's last link with the outside world, and then move on the city itself.
