Phnom Penh: It was the stuff of hack novels: The popular bureaucrat who refused to meet a mob of angry student is picked up and corried to them. Tension eases, there is nervous laughter and witty remarks are traded. The bureaucrat tosses his hands in the air and agrees to join the students. They clap with elation. Improbable, perhaps, but this happened lastweek when students protestors stormed the ministry of Education and persuaded Keo Sang Kim, the minister and Thach Chea, the former education minister, to join in what had the hunt of a happy ending. Only hours latter, both men were shot dead during one of the most dramatic demonstration in this city's history.
