Heavy fighting was reported by western agencies June 16 around the Cambodian port city of Sihanouk Ville (renamed Kampong Som by the Lon Nol puppet government). The puppet colonel in charge of defending the town. The only deep-water port still controlled by the regime, said his forces had suffered heavy casualties, and that both the airport and a French-owned oil refiery near the city had been put out of commission.
