You can have many kind of harrowing experiences in Phnom Penh these days, but one of the mose disquieting comes before you actually get there. fearing that a stray insurgents rocket might hit them, pilots flying the aircraft of the few international carriers which still serve the Cambodian capital do not waste anytime in landing. As they approach the airport, the aircraft go into a steep dive, bank roll around a little, dive again and finally land. When the plane is on the runway it goes scutting quickly back down the tarmac with about as much dignity as a chicken who knows the butcher if after it.
