Prince Norodom Sihanouk has not wasted any opportunity intelling the world that he is fed up with France's fence-sitting policy towards the Cambodian conflict. He has even threatened to have no relations with France if he established the Royal Government of National Union of Cambodia (GRUNK) in Phnom Penh. But lately, the prince and Khmer Rouge leader have been making conciliatiory statments. After the recent arrival in Peking of Sihanouk's mother Queen Kussamak, the French Ambassador Etienne Manach was taken for a special audience. The Queen thanked the Ambassador for the role France had played in securing her release from Phnom Penh. On that occasion, Sihanouk also took care to clarify that his reference to the American "accomplices" in a recent speech in Peking was aimed at the Soviet Union and not France.
