Summary / Abstract :

From 1953, when it gained its independence from the French colonialists, unit 1970, Cambodia was an "Island of peace" in the midst of war that was sweeping the Indochina peninsula. Despite constant threats, sabotage, terror bombings and even occasional invasions by the U.S. and its Saigons and Bangkok allies, Cambodia managed by its leader, Prince Norodom Sihanouk.
