Nayan Chanda's report on Cambodia [Review, Oct.29] was generally very sound, but I wonder whether he might be underestimating the virulence of continuing purges. Early this month in Trad province, Thailand, I interviewed a group of defectors from revolutionary troop 131, a 300-man Khmer Rouge unit based on Koh Den Toun, an island off Cambodia's Koh Kong province.
