American-made F-5 jets swept across the Cambodian border, dropping cluster bombs and other antipersonnel devices to soften up the enemy. Infantrymen supported by tanks and howitzers invaded the dense rubber plantations of the Fish Hook and Parrot's Beak regions of Cambodia and launched a series of battalion-size skirmishes.
