Summary / Abstract :
|
While there is no evidence for the Vietnamese claimed that ousted Kampuchea Premier Pol Pot has fled to Thailand, Western intelligence sources have confirmed that the Vietnamese have overrun his jungle headquarters. One indication is the silence of the headquarters radio which had been in constant touch with units in the field, giving among other things specific instructions about liquidating people suspect of collaborating with the Vietnamese and ordering that Soviet and Cuban advisers be captured alive. The failure of Pol Pot's forces to communicate with Kunming in South China, from where the "Voice of Democratic Kampuchea" broadcasts daily claims of victory, has led to ankiety about Chinese diplomatic personnel and military advisers who stayed with the Khmer Rouge command after the fall of the Phnom Penh.
