Summary / Abstract :
If it still exists, the graceful-horned, cow-like Kouprey may be one of earth's rarest creatures. Last reliably sighted by Dr. Boonsong Lekagul in Thailand in 1948 and in Laos and Kampuchea in the mid-1970s, the animal once roamed in sufficient numbers to be enshried on the walls of Angkor Wat. How old is it? Aided by Boonsong, American Archeologist Chester Gorman has unearthed some bones during a dig in northeast Thailand; they were buried ceremoniously and dated back an estimated 7,500 years.
