Brigadier Shabzad Aghmedzal wazir and 20 soldiers of the Afghan army defected on November 9 and asked Pakistan for political Asylum. They said they were unwilling to kill their own people and that they would rather join the Afghan resistance guerrillas to fight the Soviet invaders.
