On 23 December 1981, Mr. Nuon Chea, chairman of the standing committee of the Asembly of the People's Representatives of Kampuchea toured the Southern part of Battambang province where he stayed until January 14, 1982. He was most warmly welcomed by the local authorities and population. Numerous inhabitants coming from Democratic Kampuchea controlled areas, guerrillas areas and areas temporarily controlled by the Vietnamese enemy were also present to welcome Mr. Nuon Chea.
នាថ្ងៃទី២៣ ខែធ្នូ ឆ្នាំ១៩៨១ លោក នួន ជា ប្រធានគណៈកម្មាធិការនៃអង្គសន្និបាតតំណាងប្រជាជាតិកម្ពុជា បានទៅទស្សនាកិច្ចនៅភាគខាងតូ្ឃូងខេត្ដដំបង ដែលជាកន្លែងដែលគាត់រស់នៅរហូតដល់ថ្ងៃទី១៤ ខែមេសា ឆ្នាំ១៩៨២។ លោកបានទទួលស្វាគមន៍យ៉ាងកក់ក្ដៅពីសំណាក់អាជ£ាធរ និង ប្រជាជននៅទីនោះ។ មនុស្សរស់នៅជាច្រើនមកពីតំបន់ដែលបានកាន់កាប់ដោយកម្ពុជាប្រជាធិបតេយ្យ តំបន់ទ័ពព្រៃ និងតំបន់ដែលកាន់កាប់បណ្ដោះអាសន្នពីវៀតណាម គឺមានវត្ដមានដើម្ឃីទទួលស្វាគមន៍លោក នួន ជា។
