Australia is engaged in a public slanging match with the five members of Asean over policy towards Indochina. The Australian Prime Minister, Mr. Bob Hawke, has personally rebuked the ambassadors of Thailand and Indonesia; his Foreign Minister, Mr. Bill Hayden, has complained about "bludg coning pressure" from Asean. The worst offender in his eyes in Singapore's Foreign Minister, who is reported to have accused Australia of trying toward over backwards to please Vietnam.
