When Vietnam's dry-season offensive was still raging a few months ago, a chinese official held a secret meeting with the Khmer Rouge leader, Pol Pot. The Khmer Rouge and their noncommunist allies in the coalition Government of Democratic Kampuchea (CGDK) had just lost most of the bases on the Thaiborder despite this , the official says he found Pol Pot optimistic.
