Early this month, there was much speculations in the western press about Sihanouk's statements during his 2nd April press conference in Peking in which he said he would renounce an armed struggle, he would not colla borate with Pol Pot and Ieng Sary, he would ask to return to Kampuchea to be a simple citizen and he would no longer play any political role but be would influence the United States and France and other western countries to obtain aid for the Kampuchean people.
