Summary
|
Run Rann, male, 59 years old, lives in Koh Ker village, Srayang commune, Koulen district, Preah Vihear province
Ran៌s wife៌s name is Khlouk Yun. He has four daughters and two sons.
Ran was born in Koh Ker village. Ran៌s father៌s name is Srey Run and his mother៌s is Korm. Ran has four brothers and two sisters. He is second in his family. Ran became a Buddhist monk in Srayang pagoda when he was young but resigned soon after the coup d៌etat in 1970. He then began teaching children in his village and did so until April 1975.
After the KR came to power in 1975, Ran was forced to live in a cooperative in his village and work very hard in the rice fields. At that time, the KR gave people food only two times per day. The villagers were allowed only thin rice porridge during the meals even though they themselves were producing a lot of rice. Many new people were evacuated to Koh Ker village by the KR after April 1975. Ran also stated that several of the new people were killed or died of disease during the KR regime.
After the KR collapsed in early 1979, Ran and other people returned, lived with their families, and worked in the rice fields. In 1983, there was some fighting between the Vietnamese and KR soldiers in Koh Ker village. Therefore, some villagers were sent to Siem Reap and Preah Vihear provinces by the Vietnamese. Others were mobilized by the KR to Dangrek Mountain and then served as the KR soldiers with Ta Mok.
In 1985/86 some villagers returned to live in the village. However, they fled again to live in another village in Koulen district in 1988 because the village was still used as a battlefield between the KR and PRK soldiers. The people returned and lived in the village permanently after the KR integrated with the Cambodian Government in 1998.
