Suon Noeun, female, 58 years old, former primary teacher. Suon Noeun, farmer, lives in Tuol Cha village, Tumnub Dach commune, Trapeang Prasat district, Oddar Meanchey province. She was born in Chamrek village, Kork Khchok commune, Kampong Trabek district, Prey Veng province. She married in 1979 after the collapse of the KR. Her husband៌s name is Nuon Yung, former KR soldier of Division 612. She has two sons and one daughter. Her father៌s name is Suon Phon and her mother៌s name is Va Neang. Now they passed away. She has four brothers and three sisters. She is the second child of her family. In 1972, she volunteered to join the revolution with KR movements in the jungle in the same district. In that time, her parents did not allow her to join KR movements, because they did not want her to involve the war. She although refused her parents៌ advices and made decision herself to join the revolution without telling them. By doing so, she followed other friends and also thought that it was good thing to do. Five months ago, she came back to live with her parents because she could not be patient of working hard.
When KR came to take control in 1975, she and her family members were evacuated to Thnoeng village, Cheang Dek commune, Kampong Trabek district, Prey Veng province. This village situated along Cambodian-Vietnamese border. There, she was assigned to work in district mobile. Thus, she had to leave from family members to live and work communally. One year later, she was appointed to teach village children because her knowledge was better than other young people among poor families. Besides teaching, she planted vegetable to support daily living for commune eating and made natural fertilizer. After the collapse of the KR in 1979, she and her family members came back to live in hometown, although her forth younger sister disappeared in late 1978 when her sister was moved to work for factory in Phnom Penh. After getting marriage, she followed her husband to Malai in Banteay Meanchey province situated along Cambodian-Thai border. In 1981, she followed her husband to Sector 1003, under control of Son Sen, situated in Dangrek Mountain. For daily living, she lived under KR៌s support both rice and consumed materials. Sometimes she earned money by cutting potato at plantation in Thailand. Also, she did small business with Thai people by selling military clothes and backpack. In 1992, she came down from the mountain to live in Tuol Cha village, better known as Phum 81. She then fled to live in O-Svay Thmei after attacking from Government soldiers via Trampong through Preah Vihear province. For arresting all family members in O-Svay Thmei, she added that she and her children were sent to arrest in a house in Anlong Veng near O-Chik. In that time, Ta Mok commanded his forces to bring all the family by telling that everybody had to collect rice and materials to live in Anlong Veng, because here was not safe. In late 1998, when Government soldiers attacked KR forces in Anlong Veng, she did not followed Ta Mok to escape to Dangrek Mountain. She decided to come back to live in Tuol Cha. Nowadays she likes her present living condition because she lives peacefully without escaping from place to place like before. Especially, she has rights to do free business or go somewhere without fear. |
