Prakk Samon, male, 59 years old and lives in O-Rumduol village, Preah Pralay commune, Trapeang Prasat district, Oddar Meanchey province. Currently, Samon is a chief of Preah Pralay commune.
Samon was born in Sa-Ang Phnom commune, Sa-Ang district, Kandal province. Samon studied grade 7 (old system) and he quitted from the school in 1963-64, and then Samon became a Buddhist monk because his parents wanted him to serve in Buddhist. Samon disrobed from being monkhood when his mother got serious ill and died in 1969. In 1973, Samon joined the KR movement in Region 25. First, he was in Regiment 52 of Division 11. Teanh was a chief of the division. In 1974, the KR sent Samon to Division 14. So Saroeun alias [05] was a chief of the division. Samon was in Phsar Thmei after the KR entered Phnom Penh in April 1975. The KR changed the division៌s name. It was from original division 14 to division 801, and then the KR sent the division to Ratanak Kiri province. Samon and other soldiers transported by boat to Kratie and stayed in Kratie province for a half of month and Samon and other went to O-Yadav district. Samon was in regiment 81 of Division 801. When the Vietnamese entered in Cambodian in early 1979, his family fled immediately to Northwest of Cambodia. They were at Baraing Thleak, O-Anluok areas. As for, Samon and his battalion was blocked in Doc Keu battlefield of Vietnam territory. Aftermath, his unit withdrew step by step from the battlefield to Sre Pauk of Mondul Kiri province and crossed National road 19 to pass Se Kong, Se San; and Stung Treng province. In 1980, Samon crossed from west to east banks of Mekong River and walked through forest to Dangrek Mountain. Samon climbed the mountain at An Seh checkpoint, where the KR called the KR military base [1002]. Samon reunited with his family at the KR military base [808], and then they went to join the division 801 again at Tonle Ropeou of the KR military base [1001]. Son Sen was top leader at the base. In 1982, Ta Monk assigned Samon to join Division 612. At that time, the division operated a long Cambodia €“Thailand border from An Seh to Preah Vihear temple. [Ta] Chhean and [Ta] Hoeun were chief and deputy chief of the division. In 1984, Samon took his family to Preah Pralay, and then to Choam Sla when the Vietnamese took over along the border. In 1990, Samon and his family went down to live in Preah Pralay areas again. There, his family started to work in rice field. |
