Selon un ancien commandand Khmer Rouge qui vient de se rèfugier en Thailande, il yaurait actuellement environ mille conscillers sovrètiqune et deux mille cubains au Cambodge. Selon l'ancien officier Khmer Rouges, les cubains participeraient directement aux combats notamment dam les unités de tanks Vietnamiennes et comme pilotes.
