About 800 Vietnamese troops confronted Thai forces along half-mile stretch of Kampuchea's border as they fightened a siege of the Khmer Rouge stronghold of Phnom Malia. Prime Sihanouk, leader of the anti-Vietnamese resistance in Cambodia. That he hoped the Chinese would soon give "active support" to his beleaguered forces.
