Separation from Family:
From 17 April 1975 onward, I was separated from my wife. My wife was assigned to live in Koh Khnor Cooperative, and I was ordered by Angkar to work in the unit of Prek Roka Commune. Later I worked in the district unit there. After we were separated, I rarely saw my wife. Angkar only permitted me a short visit during noon to see my wife. Kung Sophea (alias Touch) was the person who ordered us to be separated. Touch said that Angkar believed that husbands and wives should not live or work together because this would not contribute to Angkar’s goal of eliminating all family ties and private thoughts. I had to stay in the commune unit while my wife was in the cooperative. My house was demolished and turned into a trench and granary. Not only was my house demolished, but other peoples’ houses were also destroyed. |
