My name is Khem Sopha. I am 50 years old and currently live in Po Doh Village, Bakou Commune, Kandal Stung District, Kandal Province.

Execution:

After 1975 when the Khmer Rouge took control of Cambodia, my family members including my grandmother Suon, grandfather La, father Touch Sok Khem, mother Long Sim, younger sister Khem Rasy, younger brother Chong, and youngest brother Peou, died of starvation and sickness, one after another. My grandfather La committed suicide by hanging himself, because he was outraged that the Khmer Rouge (a commune chief whose name I do not know) ordered him to carry earth as forced labor. I don’t know who is most responsible for the death of my family; however, I remain angry with the Khmer Rouge regime which separated me from them. When my mom was sick, I asked Pau, the commune chief, for a leave to take care of her, but he replied that I wasn’t a doctor. Until this day, I dont even know where their bodies are buried. The deaths took place at Veal Kandaol Village, Barkou Commune, Kandal Stung District, Kandal Province. During the Khmer Rouge regime, I worked in a mobile unit and was not able to visit my family. They passed away at the end of 1975.
