Sang Prison

My name is Nou Mon, and I currently live in Svay Ming Village, Bakou Commune, Kandal Stung District, Kandal Province. During the Pol Pot regime, I suffered along with the rest of the Cambodian people. I lost my husband, a child, and a grandchild, all of whom were detained in Sang prison.

The detention of husband, a child and grandchild in Sang prison:

During the Pol Pot regime, in addition to being subjected to forced labor and hunger, my family was separated when some members were arrested and put in prison. Since that time they have never returned. In 1976, my son(s) and family (members) were ordered by the cooperative chief, a man named Chea, to transplant rice seedlings. My three children performed this task along with thirty other villagers. It was routine for the chief to assign this work three times per month for 30 people each time. I didn’t witness my relatives being taken to Sang [Prison]. It was my neighbor (whose name I have forgotten) who told me about the incident.

In 1977, Chea, the cooperative chief, took my husband away because his name appeared on the list of the villagers to be transferred. Later, in 1978, the list contained the names of my children. I witnessed a scene in which a few Khmer Rouge militiamen escorted a line of thirty villagers headed for Sang [Prison]. I was not sure whether they stopped at Sang or not, but the villagers were all aware that prisoners were being taken to Sang Security Office. Since that time, I have never received any information about my family.
