On the surface the political scene remained claim, with general Sis sowath Sirik Matak, governing the country confidently as acting Prince minister. But beneath faction at rising prices and with corruption within the government. There was a recrudescence of rumours of all sorts and very difficult to check, alleging arrests of army officers and students, demonstration against the government, and plots to return to a monarchy. Report on the Health of Prime Minister, General Lon Nol, who remained in Hawaii, continued to be optimistic and to emphasize the wisdom of his completing his convalescence outside Cambodia.
