In a recent statement, Prince Sihanouk mentioned Cambodia's difficulties with neighouring countries as the reason for his resignation as Prime Minister . While the legation in Phnom Penh believes that the more important reasons for his resignation ate connected with internal affairs, it seems likely that Sihanouk's withdrawal from leadership of the government was party Cambodia's desire to find a basis for improved relations with its neighbours with Laos of face by Sihanouk.
