Political on 21st October the prime minister field Marshal Sarit, addressing a meeting of mayors and other provincial officials, said that he had recently been the recipient of flood of anonymous letters purporting to warm him that there was dissension in the government and that general Thanom, the minister of defence, and general prapas, the minister of the interior, were opposed to him. He said the rumours were obviously untrue since Thanon and Prapas were his close associated and close friends.
