It seems likely that radio Australia reports was based on wire service report of statements by Brigadier General Pham Van Phu, commander of 44 special zone. Vietnam press on evening of 05 December reported that brigadier General Phu told reporters that the communists had used Svay Rieng as a base for attacks on the border provinces of Vietnam.
