In the end it come down to a haunting symbol, a folded American flag wrapped inside a plastic bag carried under the arm of a departing U.S. ambassador. John Gunther Dean, American envoy to Cambodia during its slow strangulation by communist forces, struck the embassy's colors last week and was evacuated from Phnom Penh by Marine helicopters-along with 81 other Americans and an assortment of Cambodian officials.
