We have read with interest Washington's memorandum of 7 October reporting on a conversation with the deputy country director for China in the state department. It is useful to get this sort of play-back. We see American visitor here from time to time,and get some idea of the climate of opinion about China in Washington. But it is always helpful to know what people at the working level in the state department and other agencies are thinking.
