Summary / Abstract :

While Cambodian in not a country of primary strategic interests to the United States the Cambodian conflict affects the stability of a large region, South East Asia, of growing economic and political importance and with which we have extensive ties, moreover, because of the indirect but significant involvement of the Soviets and Chinese in the conflict , our effectiveness in helping to shap an outcome in Cambodia will be seen by many government in the region as an indication of our intention to continue playing a major role there.
