Thailand want to withdraw from the Southeast Asia Treaty organization because it served no useful purpose. Thailand had no immediate plans to end its alliance with the US. This counterpoint of sweeping statements and canny hedges is Thailand 's way of adjusting to the rapidly changing situation in neighboring Indochina.
