In March 1999, UN secretary - general Kofi Annan made public the "report of the Group of Experts for Cambodia" established " to evaluate the existing evidence" of serious violations of Cambodian and international Law " committed during the rule of the communist party of Kampuchea (CPK- derogatorily know as "the Khmer Rouge") In Cambodia from 17 April 1975 to 6 January 1979.
