Survive, in the Hearts of the Khmer Rouge Madness is a very personal film by a survivor of the “killing field” of Cambodia in the 1970s. Roshane Saidnattar interviews Khieu Samphan, the President of Kampuchea democratic, who was Pol Pot theorician (and who has since been arrested and put on trial for genocide). With her mother and daughter, the filmmaker then makes an emotion journey back to the hamlet where she’d been a child slave of the revolution. Archival footage and dialogue-free re-enactments with actors give depth to the nightmare.
