Summary
|
Meach Chhay, male, 57 years old and lives in Watt Ches village, Malai commune, Malai district, Banteay Meachey province. Chhay was born in Prek Thmey village, Toek Vil commune, Sa-ang district, Kamdal province. Chhay dropped out of school when he was in grade 6 (old system) in Toek Vil Secondary School in 1969.
Chhay volunteered to serve as a Soldier in Region 25 including Sa-ang, Koh Thom and Leuk Dek districts with Vietcong three months after coup d'état in 1970 by Lon Nol. When the KR got victory over Lon Nol 1975, Chhay was assigned to be a commander of special battalion of Division 12. The Division was in Toek Thla, Phnom Penh.
In 1977, the KR declared war with Vietnamese along the border and many KR cadres included Chhay and soldiers were sent to fighting against Vietnamese at Svay Rieng province, Cambodia €“ Vietnam border. Chhay was in the border for one year and then, he was sent back to work as worker at Glass Factory in Stung Meanchey, Phnom Penh. Early 1979, Chhay fled along with other KR to Malai, Cambodia-Thailand border. In 1985, Chhay fled into Thailand territory and returned to Malai in 1990.
