Sar said that he first learned medicine for three months at Porpel. In 1974, he was sent to fight against Lon Nol troops. Two years later he was transferred to Phnom Penh. Two months later was moved to guard in Kampong Som. In 1977, he was sent to work in Kampong Chhnang airport until the Vietnamse troops liberated the country.

Phan said that he first trained military with Vitnamese at Svay Leu. In 1973, he was sent to learn in Vietnam for six months. When he returned home, Hou Nim and Hou Yun went to receive him. Later he was transferred to fight against Lon Nol troops at battalfield. Then he was sent to Kampong Som until the Vietnamse liberated country in 1979.
