Main Crime Location
The loss of 10 of my family members Under the Khmer Rouge regime, I lost 10 family members: my mother, brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, and my daughter. In 1977, I did farming in a mobile work brigade of district 55, Takeo province. My family lived together in the Taing Daung commune, Baty district, except for my fourth older sibling, who lived in Pursat province. In late 1977, I heard that my oldest brother, Mam, had been arrested and taken from his home, located in the Taprech village, after he was accused of being an enemy. The people who came to arrest him were communal militiamen and the chief of the commune, named Laut. I do not know who ordered this group to arrest my brother, or where they took him to. I cannot recall the people who told me about the incident. I think they have already passed away. Later on, the commune militiamen and the commune chief, Laut, arrested my third brother and put him to work at a construction site at the base of the Tamao mountain. At the time, my mother and sisters also asked this group if they could go to work at the construction site as well. I do not know who ordered the militiamen and commune chief to do this. I believe they took my family and other villagers away, because we were 17th of April people. After that, I heard villagers saying that [after the removal to the mountain site], they saw some clothes which belonged to my family and others who lived nearby. I think the order to separate my family was given by [people in] the upper level. My daughter, Samrith Sanary, died from starvation at home in late 1976. When she died, I was transporting salt in the Kampot province. Four or five hours after I returned from transporting salt in Kampot, she died. My daughter died, because there were insufficient rations and no hospitals under the Khmer Rouge regime. I think [the Khmer Rouge] did this, because they received orders from the highest level. In 1983, I did not file a petition [against the Khmer Rouge.] I am happy to file this application form now, because I am anxious to see the Khmer Rouge leaders being prosecuted soon.
