Crime Info
Main Crime Location
Additional information collected on March 21, 2009 Forced labor: When the KR evacuated Phnom Penh in 1975, I was assigned to work in Region 4 of Battambang Province doing farming, digging a canal, and planting crops. In 1976, I was reassigned to clear the forest at Ta Kream Mountain, Battambang Province, to provide land for planting potatoes, red corn, and other kinds of crops. Afterward, I was reassigned to do farming at Tra rice field. There were 30 people in that unit, under the control of Leng, the unit chief. Grandfather (a respectful term for addressing the elderly) Leng was the district chief. Regarding food rations, during the harvest season, the villagers were offered cooked rice; but during the rainy season, the villagers were given only watery rice gruel. Food rations were so inadequate that sometimes I stole potatoes or corn to satisfy my hungry stomach. Leng used to catch me stealing, however he did not punish me. He just advised me not to commit any more stealing. I do not understand why the KR starved their own people when there was plenty of rice in storage.
Others Crime
In 1975, I lost cattle, carts, boat, and farming land. This loss has caused my family to live in poverty until these days.
