Main Crime Location
My name is Khut Chea, and I currently live in Boeng Ka-ek Village, Prek Roka Commune, Kandal Stung District, Kandal Province. Before 1975, I lived with my husband who was a pilot during the Sihanouk and Lon Nol regimes. Later my husband was arrested and executed in Sang Prison after being evacuated to his home village. Detention of husband in Sang Prison: During the 12th lunar month in 1977, my husband Khen was arrested by Chhum, Chrauch, Y, and Nhor, the village chief and group leaders. They told me that my husband had been ordered to make manure at Sang [prison]. Actually, the village chief clearly knew that my husband was a pilot during the previous regime; thus, I believed that this was the reason behind his arrest. A villager named Korn, who was arrested along with my husband but managed to escape being killed, told me that my husband was executed and the rest of the inmates were tortured and interrogated until they confessed, despite the fact that they were innocent. Those who didn’t confess to their involvement in the administration of the previous regime would be tortured relentlessly. Korn died in 1983. I witnessed the arrest of my husband. Three days after his arrest, militiamen from Sang Security Office came and asked me, “Comrade! Do you want to work with your husband growing potatoes at Thmei Village? You can return in nine months. I told them that I didn’t want to go because I was settled where I was currently living. When the militiamen came looking for workers, there were many people who volunteered to go with them and none of those volunteers ever returned. In 1979, villagers gathered to dig up the area around the Sang Prison compound. I was present and saw my husband’s clothing which I had embroidered with his name. I also saw his spoon and bowl on which I had inscribed his name. This confirmed my belief that my husband was executed.
Others Crime
Evacuation: On 17 April 1975, I lived near Pochentong Airport. When the Khmer Rouge soldiers entered Phnom Penh, they told everyone to vacate the city. They said it would not be necessary to bring many belongings because we would be returning in three days. Along the evacuation routes, the soldiers told people that they should travel to their home villages. The Khmer Rouge confiscated all cars and motorbikes which were being used by the evacuees. At that time, I traveled for one day and two nights to reach Daem Ampil Market in Prek Ta Tauch Village, Boeng Kha-chang Commune, Kandal Stung District, Kandal Province. There, we were divided into groups and our names were included on the list of 17 April People. The soldiers told us to leave Phnom Penh because Angkar had to organize the city and round up the enemy. The truth is that we didn’t return to the city in three days. Upon arrival in the village, I was forced to work very hard carrying earth, without being given enough food to eat.
